"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord," camp Adele said in a statement to Us Weekly. "All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false." Adele may have inadvertently fueled the speculation herself in a post she published on her blog on Oct. 4, when she admitted she was "heartbroken and worried to tell you that yet again im experiencing problems with my voice." On Friday, the following statement was posted on Adele's blog: "It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011. She i...

Throat problems forced Adele to cancel an already-rescheduled U.S. tour this month, and the pop singer also scrapped a performance at the Q Awards in London on Monday. Since wowing fans with a mesmerizing performance at the Brit awards in February, pop singer Adele has achieved global fame and critical reward aplenty. But her failure to perform at the Q awards in London Monday, combined with the cancellation of American tour dates, suggests that there is no clear end to the throat problems that are plaguing the songbird. Kelly Clarkson wants to 'punch' Adele

Kelly Clarkson wants to 'punch Adele in the face'. The pop star is envious of the British singer because she is just 'too good' and no one can compete with her talent. She joked: 'I want to punch Adele in the face! She is just too good. I saw the BRIT Awards and I was just bawlin', just watching her on YouTube, in a little box this big.' Despite her admiration for Adele, Kelly insists the artist she most wants to work with is country singer Miranda Lambert, who she is currently 'stalking'. She told The Guardian newspaper: 'Miranda is one of my favourite artists. Have I thought about collaborating with her? Uhh - I might think about it every day! I run into her all the time and I swear to God she thinks I'm stalking her and she hates me. 'Every time I run into her, usually I'm intoxicated and I'm slurring, 'We need to sing a song!' at her. She says she wants to do it, but every time she has an album coming out, I do too, so...

Adele & Casting Crowns: Duking It Out For No. 1 on Billboard 200

As we reported on Wednesday , Christian band Casting Crowns could be on its way to its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 next week with "Come to the Well." However, a certain British songbird named Adele is putting up quite the fight for the top slot. While industry prognosticators have suggested that "Come to the Well" could sell upwards of 110,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Oct. 23, so too, could Adele's "21" album. This past week, "21" sold 111,000 and all signs point to the set staying steady around that number next week. How Adele and Elle Fanning Kicked Lindsay Lohan Out Of The Picture

In celebrity culture, the bad girl image of the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and the recently deceased Amy Winehouse is now a thing of the past. The sex tapes, shoplifting, driving under the influence, dancing on tables and private parts-baring stunts of recent years have all been eclipsed by the clean and well-scrubbed images of the Grammy-winning singer Adele, the sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning, and Hailee Steinfeld. Elle and Hailee did the rounds of fashion week shows and after parties but there were no reports of them throwing bottles at photographers or pictures of them holding up the finger like Lohan. Even in the world of hip hop and R&B, which has previously been linked to shootouts, gun slinging and...

"Someone" maintains its command atop the chart by logging a fourth frame at No. 1 on Digital Songs (207,000, down 5%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and holding at No. 2 for a fourth week on Radio Songs (144 million all-format audience impressions, up 6%, according to Nielsen BDS). Adele ignored record label emails as teen

British singer Adele spent years ignoring emails from record companies eager to sign her up because she was convinced the messages were fake. The Chasing Pavements star recorded material as a student at London's prestigious Brit School and a friend uploaded the demos to her MySpace page. Bosses at a number of top labels attempted to contact the talented teen, but she refused to reply to their emails, and it was only at the age of 18 that she responded and signed to XL Recordings. "My friend set up a Myspace page for my music in 2004, but I was 14 or 15 and I wasn't really interested in it. But it was part of my course at school to learn how to use recording equipment, so I'd record these demos then I'd give them to my friend Lyndon, because I don't listen to my own music, and he started putting them on there (the internet)," she tells Britain's The Sun. "He kept saying to me between 2004 and 2006: 'I think you've got an email from someone ...

Weekly Chart Notes: Adele, Foster the People, Richard Marx

ADELE'S ADULT ADULATION: "There are two sounds right now: Adele ... and everyone else." That's how an industry colleague says that his two teenage children recently described what they're hearing on the car radio of late when driving with dad. Billboard's charts reinforce the astuteness of that observation. As Adele's "Someone Like You" logs a third week atop the Billboard Hot 100, the ballad ascends 2-1 on the Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart. With her previous single "Rolling in the Deep" at No. 1 on Adult Contemporary for a 17th week, Adele is just the second artist to top the adult airplay tallies simultaneously with different titles. On the Sept. 18 and 25, 2010, Adult Pop Songs charts, fellow Columbia Records act Train reigned with "If It's Love." The song's command coincided with the group's 22-week stay atop Adult Contemporary with prior single "Hey, Soul Sister." How have Train and Adele ear...

Adele label XL leads indie music award nominations

Independent record label XL Recordings , home to chart topper Adele , underlined a record-breaking year with seven nominations at the inaugural AIM Independent Music Awards . Adele's "21," on course to be the biggest selling album in both Britain and the United States this year, was nominated on Thursday in the "best difficult second album" category alongside label stablemates Friendly Fires for "Pala." XL's The Horrors and SBTRKT are also head-to-head for the independent breakthrough of the year title, while Adele, Vampire Weekend and The xx, all at XL, compete for the most played independent artist. The awards, organized by the Association of Independent Music (AIM), are designed to recognize talent in the music business outside the four major record companies. Music journalists and bands have long felt that high-profile awards like the Brits tend to favor artists at major labels at the expense of independent acts. AIM boss Alison Wenham said ...

News that she and her boyfriend Matt Prokop were driving on L.A.'s notorious freeway last week during a heavy rainstorm. "It was so foggy you couldn't see ten feet ahead of you," Hyland said. Actor beau Prokop, 21, "had an audition and we were going through lines," she explained. But High School Musical 3 star Prokop lost his intense concentration -- and was thus relatively less distracted during the stormy drive -- when Adele's aching ballad came on. "He would have been focusing on remembering his lines [but] 'Someone Like You' came on the radio, so we blasted it to sing along to it." With eyes a bit more on the road during t...

Adele damaged vocal chords by talking too much

As we reported a few days back, Adele has been forced to cancel her upcoming US tour because of more problems with her voice. The Someone Like You singer was devastated and annoyed over the cancellation, so we imagine shell be even more upset and furious now she knows her vocal chord troubles are all her own fault. It was thought Adele s smoking habit was to blame, but in actual fact the down-to-earth singer talks too much and its not good for her voice. Smoking is not the reason I got laryngitis it was because I was talking too much," Adele has told The Sun . "I damage my voice offstage, not onstage. Onstage I am fine, as apparently I am technically great, but when I talk I damage my voice big time. I have got screwed into giving up smoking. It would seem Adele isnt at all happy about having to give up the fags (were sure her lungs are, though), If I wasn't a singer I still would be smoking 25 a day. Smoking is my favourite thing to do in the world, I am gutted I have...

Adele fears 'happy' backlash

Adele ... don't be happy, worry! Adele worries people won't like her music if she starts writing happy songs. The British singer has released albums 19 and 21 , both of which were about breaking up with a man. It means most of her tracks have a dark undertone, but she hopes that isn't always the case. One of Adele's best known tracks is Someone Like You , which is an ode to a former partner. She wrote it as she felt she'd end up a "bitter old woman" if she didn't get her feelings out. Song of the Week: 'Someone Like You,' Adele

Image
Topping the American charts, but far from American shores: Adele. Adele , the 23-year-old British pop singer, named her latest album "21." Her first, released two years earlier, was called "19." These titles suggest that her sets are deeply personal statements; diary-like documents of two years in the life of an artist with a voice big enough to top charts on both sides of the Atlantic . She also wants to make sure we all know she is young. No matter how classic her soul ballads sounded on the radio, she is a kid straight out of performance high school. Unlike Amy Winehouse, the self-destructive singer to whom she has most frequently been compared, she promised to have a long and sustainable career. This should have been a year of pure triumph for Adele, who has sold more albums stateside in 2011 than any other artist, and whose singles "Rolling in the Deep" and current No. 1 "Someone Like You" have become colossal pop hits. But she has had to ...
