Adele breaks two Billboard records with '21,' following Grammy success

Adele has continued to make headlines for her sophomore album "21," breaking two Billboard records this week.

The 23-year-old British pop singer's album had its best sales week yet, selling 730,000 copies following her Grammy wins and return to the Billboard Hot 100's single chart according to Billboard.

The album a! lso spen t 21 weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, beating out Whitney Houston's soundtrack for "The Bodyguard," for the honor of "longest command for an album by a woman in the chart's 56-year history."

Adele is also the "first woman in the Hot 100's 53-year archives to place three songs in the top 10 concurrently as a lead artist."

Previous artists to have three songs in the top 10 concurrently include Chris Brown in 2008, Usher in 2004, the Bee Gees in 1978 and the Beatles (who had five singles in the top 10) in 1964.

Adele dominated the 2012 Grammy Awards on February 12 winning six awards including taking top honors like Record of the Year and Album of the Year for her single, "Rolling In The Deep," and her sophomore album "21." The singer also had a big comeback to the stage singing "Rolling In The Deep" after recovering from vocal cord surgery and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

"I can't believe I'm getting emotional already," she said after winning Best Pop Vocal Album. "And seeing as it's a vocal performance, I need to thank my doctors, I suppose, who brought my voice back." Check out a full list of winner for the 2012 Grammy Awards.

Adele is best known for hit singles such as "Someone Like You" and the angsty "Rolling In the Deep," which was performed by Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff on the FOX musical sitcom "Glee." On a recent episode of the network's hit singing competition series "American Idol," co-judge Steven Tyler of the rock band Aerosmith joked about having to hear contestants sing "the same Adele song" for hours.

The song are featured on her second studio album, "21." More than 5.6 million copies of i! t have b een sold in the United States since it was released in early 2011, breaking Usher's seven-year-old record for selling the most copies in one year.

In November of 2011, Adele, whose full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, underwent vocal cord microsurgery to stop recurrent bleeding from a benign polyp. The condition is usually the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture.

She had canceled more than a dozen concerts and promotional appearances in the United States, where she was set to embark on a sold-our tour, and in her native United Kingdom as a result of her ailment. The following November, she said on her blog that she is "doing really well" after undergoing the surgery.
