Adele breaks iTunes record in Europe

Soul sensation Adele has become the first artist to break the one million album sales barrier via online music retailer iTunes.com in Europe.

The British singer's 21 was named the biggest-selling digital album in US history earlier this year, and now Adele has been crowned the queen of Europe, too.

Download sales of 21 have reached record-breaking figures in the 11 months since its release in January.

News of the impressive feat emerges as the Someone Like You hitmaker recovers from vocal cord surgery. Adele underwent the operation to fix a recurrent throat condition in Boston, Massachusetts in November.

The surgery forced the star to cancel her tour dates for the rest of 2011.
