Adele gets Chanel bags in apology
There are so many ways to say you're sorry - one of those ways being, well, just saying you're sorry. Karl Lagerfeld did as much in February. After calling pop star Adele "a little too fat" in the pages of U.K. Metro, the Chanel creative director wasted little time sending an official mea culpa to the paper.
But talk, and newsprint, is cheap. A Chanel bag is worth substantially more. So, according to U.K. news-paper the Sun, Lagerfeld has sent a collection of purses to Adele, hoping to repair his reputation with so much quilted leather.
"He told his team to send Adele the best the fashion house has to offer after hearing she collected bags," a snitch told the Sun. "He said he really wanted to make it up to her so they could maybe work together in the future." And on that point, the source shared a bit of a scoop: "He could see her fronting a campaign for Chanel Mademoiselle bags when the contract with Blake Lively ends."
If Adele has, indeed, received any complimentary packages from Chanel, she isn't tweeting about it.
But even back in February, Adele didn't bother commenting on the Lagerfeld controversy. If she was rolling with anger, she kept it to herself - though she did share some thoughts about body image around that time, albeit in an unrelated interview with People. "I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines," she said. "I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that."
As for Lagerfeld's previous, non-handbag apology, here's what he told Metro in February:
"I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article, it changes the meaning of the thought," he said.
"She is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her," he continued. "I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."
