Adele's a Templestowe action hero
WHEN Adele Highmore was told in January her grandmother had cancer, her shock quickly turned to action.
Two months later the year 8 Templestowe College student had organised for eight heads to be shaved, 100 cars washed and more than 200 sausages sold, raising $4298 for cancer research.
Adeles mother, Leanne Highmore, said action came naturally to her daughter.
She is very self-motivated, Ms Highmore said.
Were extremely proud.
As a member of Templestowe Colleges student representative council, Adele knows a little bit about organising events.
She persuaded Bunnings and Autobarn to donate buckets and sponges, and asked Di Censo butchers in Doncaster East and Stephens Meats in Eltham if they could spare some sausages.
Her grandmother, Lauraine Dean - rushed to hospital on Adeles 13th birthday with kidney failure - is being treated with dialysis and chemotherapy for myeloma, a type of blood cancer.
Mrs Dean, whose prognosis is good, said her granddaughters drive was unbelievable.
I was shocked when I found out how much she had raised, Mrs Dean said.
Im very proud.
